So, it seems that MetaProducts Download Express is the new thing everyone's using, though I've heard from a few blind friends of mine that Free Download Manager is the best download manager program out there. I've also had experience with Download Accelerator Plus, though I hated its constant ads and locked features on the free version versus having to pay for one. Some people don't have one at all and just use their browser... so what's your favorite and why... and if anyone else uses Free Download Manager like I do, how do you get it to disable popping up wanting to download all the quicknote and anagram sounds and whatnot on the zone?
This has always intrigued me:
Aha, I am in fact on a dial-up connection. At my best connections, I'm connected at 38.6 kbps.
Hmmm, perhaps ignorants is blis. I have absolutely no idea how these download managers work but do know they frustrate the heck out of me when they come up and the first thinkg I do is uninstal them. Okay! that was probably of no help... sory.... REally! would someone explain the reason for using one and how downloades are handled? would this be for doing batch downloads? I do know aparently they have the capabillity of resuming a download should the connection drop. Thanks.
Yes, they have the capability of resuming if the connection drops. It's easier to do multiple downloads, say you want to download an audio profile from the zone and a dectalk file from the archive site... if you have a high speed connection, you can do both at once. It has more detail even for one download, so you can see how fast you are going, how many connections the program is making to the site to accelerate the download, etc. Free Download Manager even has FTP file support, so I use it on my friend's FTP server all the time instead of a program like Smart FTP or FTP Explorer. If Meta Products Download Express has all these features, I just may make the switch since people using it know how to disable the downloads on the zone from popping up.
no, use get right. it is very good, and i use it as my main download program. it doesn't prompt you to download the sound files from the zone as a plus. go to www.getright.com for more info
to add to the last post, get right also has bit torrent support in it.
i like fresh download from fresh devices. It's a nice, simple proggy that is totally accessible. The thing I really like about it, is you can have a text file with a lot of URL's in it. You can open that up in Fresh Download, and all those URL's will be in the download list. Plus, there are sounds you can set up for when one file is finished, when the whole list is finished, and more. It's great!
